The next Instagram

Anil Dash considering which mobile video sharing service will be the next Instagram:

This dilemma is currently playing out in video sharing, where the apps Viddy and Socialcam are locked in a tight race to become “the Instagram of video.” There are small variations between them—a design choice here, an input method there. But aside from the fact that Viddy limits users to 15 seconds per clip, the two are strikingly similar.

No mobile video sharing service is going to become the next Instagram. From a consumption perspective, photos are much different than videos. You can’t watch videos easily while walking down the street, on the subway, in class, or while sitting in a meeting. These video sharing services may grow much larger than they are now, but I don’t foresee them ever becoming as popular as Instagram.
